Smartphones are currently the most popular phone types commonly used and advertised in the various mobile phones deals. A smartphone, which varies in price from cheap mobile phones without signing on for a 2-year contract with a provider, is a higher-end phone with advanced computer and connectivity abilities. They were first introduced as a PDAs or personal digital assistants.

Modern phones compete to be the best mobile phone on the market and run operating systems including Google Android, Microsoft Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Apple’s iOS. Features that the modern-day phones have include media player capabilities, digital cameras, pocket video cameras and global positioning systems. Some also include a fully functional touchscreen, web browser to access Internet content and connection to high-speed data through mobile broadband connections or Wi-Fi.

When you decide to begin looking on the market at the different phones available you should read the mobile phones reviews to determine if it contains the features that you need and to determine how well it performs. Some budget phones may not be as well at displaying high graphics or running applications as other competitors on the market.

The screens available on these phones range from 2 inches on the small end to slightly over 4 inches on the higher end. Anything above 4 inches typically impacts usability and is assumed to be not as user friendly as others. The screen resolutions typically range from 240 x 320 up to 720 x 1280 for devices primarily designed for watching videos and movies.

Luckily for the majority of consumers, smartphones are advertised in exchange for signing a 2-year contract. Cell phone providers choose to do so to encourage carrier loyalty, and also allow subscribers to upgrade after a term period in exchange for signing another contract.
